The new «Spider-Man: Far From Home» trailer catches up with Peter Parker (Tom Holland) in a world needing new heroes after «Avengers: Endgame.»

Spoiler alert! This post discusses the ending of «Avengers: Endgame,» so beware if you haven’t seen it yet.

Fans disappointed they didn’t get an end-credits scene in the blockbuster «Avengers: Endgame» only had to wait about a week and a half for something better: a three-minute look at how much the Marvel Cinematic Universe has changed.

The new trailer for «Spider-Man: Far From Home» has some of the same footage we’ve seen before – like Peter Parker (Tom Holland) having to swing into Spidey mode while on a class trip to Europe – but there’s a whole new context now after «Endgame.»

«Everywhere I go, I see his face. I just really miss him,» says a teary-eyed Peter talking about his mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), the guy formerly known as Iron Man, who sacrificed himself to beat Thanos. But, as Stark’s right-hand man Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) counters, «I don’t think Tony would have done what he did if he didn’t know you were going to be here after he was gone.»

After getting dusted from existence in «Infinity War» and brought back in «Endgame,» Peter has to figure a lot of things out since he missed five years, yet the major theme of this new landscape is who’ll be the next A-list superhero to protect Earth. After Spidey takes down some bad guys, a New York cop says, «Are you the next Iron Man now?» and the teen do-gooder quips, «I don’t have time, I’m too busy doing your job.»

When heavy hitters like Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) are busy in space, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) calls in Spidey to team with mysterious new hero Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) when a bunch of elemental monsters start causing massive international destruction.

And there are a few extra wrinkles: Apparently, Mysterio is from an alternate Earth thanks to a dimensional rip caused by the Infinity Gauntlet. So not only is the multiverse central to the animated «Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,» but it’s now a thing in the live-action Marvel flicks, too. (Unless Mysterio’s totally lying.) Plus, it seems that Peter’s crush MJ (Zendaya) might already know that he’s Spider-Man, for a little added romantic drama.
